Baseball: Pitchers take charge in Division I semifinal

Pitchers Wes Hatton of Norco and Ray Hanson of Long Beach Wilson are in control of their Southern Sectio-Toyota Division I semifinal. Wilson, the defending champion, holds a 2-1 lead through three innings at UC Riverside.

Hatton has given up three hits and struck out four, including a called third strike against Aaron Hicks. Hanson has struck out five and given up one hit.

The next big moment should come in the bottom of the fourth, when Hanson faces Norco’s imposing Matt Hobgood, who is scheduled to lead off the inning.
