Second-seeded Notre Dame held off a spirited rally by Quartz Hill in the bottom of the seventh inning to escape with a 7-6 victory in a Southern Section-Toyota Division III semifinal on Tuesday afternoon.

Quartz Hill’s Travis McBride drove in the first run of the seventh despite hitting into a 6-4-3 double play and Dustin Cota scored from third on a fielding error. A single by Shon Roe moved Chad Ewan into scoring position, but Notre Dame reliever Josh Goossen-Brown forced Mick Gaston into a ground out to end the game.

Goossen-Brown earned the win and Notre Dame benefited from three home runs, including a two-run shot to right-center field by Nick La Face.

The Knights will play South Hills in the division final at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Dodger Stadium.
