Friday will be known as the day the Nos. 1 and 2 teams in The Times’ baseball rankings went down to defeat in Orange County.

Unbeaten Santa Ana Mater Dei couldn’t handle Santa Margarita and UCLA-bound Trayce Thompson, who hit two home runs in a 4-2 victory. Robert Kelly struck out 10 for Santa Margarita (7-3, 3-0), which took over first place in the Trinity League. No. 1 Mater Dei is 9-1 and 2-1.
