Baseball: JSerra pulls out 1-0 win in 14 innings

Nico Darras delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the 14th inning to enable JSerra to pull out a 1-0 win over Temecula Great Oak in a Southern Section Division 1 first-round playoff game.

Keaton Siomkin threw 10 shutout innings for the Lions, striking out 11 while allowing two hits. Kyle Davis threw nine shutout innings for Great Oak.

Lakewood defeated El Modena, 2-1, in 13 innings. The top four seeds in Division 1 _ Edison, Mater Dei, Vista Murrieta and JSerra _ gave up a total of one run on the day.

There were some football-like scores.

Valencia defeated Moorpark, 17-7. James Bonds hit a home run and Quincy Quintero had three RBIs. Simi Valley defeated Fountain Valley, 17-10. Reece Schmidt hit a home run and had five RBIs. Mater Dei defeated Temecula Valley, 11-1. Blake Thomsen had a two-run home run and four RBIs.

The pitchers didn’t disappear. Danny Keller threw a six-hitter to lead Newbury Park past Camarillo, 4-0. Kagan Richardson pitched Tesoro past Marmonte League champion Westlake, 5-0. Connor Spencer hit a three-run home run. Tyler Brashears threw a two-hitter, striking out nine, in El Toro’s 9-0 win over Norco. Hart defeated Los Alamitos, 5-4, behind Tyler Glasnow, who struck out nine in six innings.

Sophomore Tyler Russell (9-1) had a no-hitter for 5 2/3 innings as Vista Murrieta defeated Simi Valley Royal, 3-0. Jeff Moberg and Tyler Rausa hit home runs.
