If there’s a better hitting team in Southern California than Santa Ana Mater Dei, please step forward. The Monarchs pounded 11 hits against a good Newhall Hart pitching staff en route to a 12-2 second-round victory in the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.
Blake Thomsen had a two-run double and a three-run home run. Ty Moore made his 50th hit of the season a memorable one, getting a two-run double during a four-run fourth inning that wiped out a 2-1 deficit. Ryan Barr had three singles.
Sophomore Davis Tominaga struck out 10 in a complete-game performance.
