Baseball: No. 1 Edison is beaten by Lakewood, 3-1

None of the top four seeds are left in the Southern Section Division 1 baseball playoffs after No. 1-seeded Huntington Beach Edison was beaten by Lakewood, 3-1, in a quarterfinal game.

Shane Watson outdueled Henry Owens for the victory. Lakewood scored two runs in the third inning on RBI doubles by J.P. Yakel and Jonathan Pasillas. The Lancers added an insurance run in the sixth on a bunt single by Jimmy Gosano, who ended Owens’ hitless innings string in the playoffs at 11 innings with a leadoff single in the third.

Owens (12-1) had 11 strikeouts and allowed four hits.
