Boys’ basketball: Strange schedule for finals

The Southern Section says its scheduling of championship games is designed to help schools reach championship venues more easily for travel reasons.
That’s why on Thursday at the Anaheim Convention Center, two championship games with much better teams have to play the 3 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. slots. Pacific Hills will be playing Cantwell-Sacred Heart in the 4A final at 3 p.m., followed by Gardena Serra-La Verne Lutheran in 4AA at 4:45 p.m.
Calabasas takes on South Torrance in the 3AA final at 6:30 p.m. The 8:15 p.m. slot will be the girls’ 2A final.
If it was me, I’d try to get the best game in the featured 8:15 p.m. position, which is 4AA.
