Football: Central Catholic sets records in bowl win

Modesto Central Catholic (14-2) broke five state bowl records in its 66-7 rout of Solano Beach Santa Fe Christian in the CIF state championship Division IV bowl game at Home Depot Center.

The Raiders (14-2) set records for total yardage (577), rushing yards (521), rushing touchdowns (nine), points scored (66) and margin of victory (59), breaking the previous record of 52 set by St. Margaret’s in a 59-7 rout of Hamilton in 2008.

Rey Vega rushed for 202 yards and four touchdowns and Ray Lomas rushed for 183 yards and three touchdowns -- all in the first half. The Raiders had 524 total yards by the end of the third quarter.

The entire second half was played with a running clock after Central Catholic built a 59-7 halftime lead.
