Standout 6-foot-8 junior forward Max Hoetzel of Calabasas is leaving later this month to travel to Berlin, where he will try to make the Germany U-18 national team.

Hoetzel holds dual United States and German citizenship. He was born in New York and his father is from Germany.

He plays for the Pump N Run Elite 17U team that is 13-0 this spring. His travel coach, Christian Aurand, said, ‘His stock is rising.’

He has an offer from San Diego and will be taking an unofficial visit to Pepperdine on Friday.

Hoetzel was a prolific shooter this past season from three-point range for Calabasas. He has been using the off season to work on his rebounding and inside skills.

He also got good news from a recent doctor’s visit.

‘They said my growth plates are still side open. I’m hoping to get a few more inches,’ he said.

Hoetzel’s big assignment is to learn some German.

‘I got to get Rosetta Stone,’ he said.
