Debra Diebold, homecoming queen at Bonita High School in La Verne, has been selected as state finalist for the California Homecoming Queen competition to be held Saturday and Sunday at the Disneyland Convention Center. The winner will receive a cash scholarship and a chance to compete in the America’s Homecoming Queen contest in Hawaii.

Susan Garrett Baker, wife of Treasury Secretary James Baker, has been elected to the board of directors of Focus on the Family, a nonprofit family services group based in Arcadia.

Bescye Powell-Burnett has been appointed children’s librarian at the Hacienda Heights Library. Powell-Burnett is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.

Eleanor Cohen has been named interim manager of the Pomona Valley Transportation Authority. Cohen, former City Council member and mayor of Claremont, will supervise the selection of a permanent manager and transit operator and develop a marketing program. The transit system will serve Pomona, La Verne, San Dimas and Claremont and will begin operation in the fall.

Frank Hotchkiss, director of planning for the Southern California Assn. of Governments, has been appointed chairman of the advisory council for the School of Design at CalPoly Pomona.

Helen McGann has been named chairman of the board of directors at Ingleside Hospital in Rosemead. She has been a board member since 1962.
