UCLA Hopes Contract Extension for Donahue Will Be Approved Soon
Pete Dalis, UCLA athletic director, said Wednesday that he hoped to have final approval on a contract extension for football Coach Terry Donahue completed sometime next week.
“We’ve all been in agreement in principle for quite some time,” Dalis said. “Everyone, including the chancellor (Charles Young), has agreed in concept on a new package for Terry.
“Our legal counsel is working with it now to see whether some terms of the package might have to have the approval of the regents. That could cause some delays. I’m hoping no approval will be needed, and we can announce a new contract sometime next week.”
Dalis said that terms and length would not be announced. Donahue has completed two years of his current five-year contract. The proposed contract is being viewed as an extension, which would, most likely, commit Donahue to UCLA for another five years. The contract has been reported to be worth more than $200,000. Dalis said that figure was in the ballpark.
