Stalled Driver Dies in Fire After Truck Hits

The driver of a jeep that apparently had stalled on the Ventura Freeway was killed in a fiery crash Tuesday as his car was hit from behind by a pickup truck, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP spokesman Greg Lamb said the jeep burst into flames when it was hit at 10:30 a.m. by a truck owned by a San Fernando Valley-based termite exterminator. The accident occurred near the Lindero Road exit in Westlake Village. The driver of the jeep, who has burned beyond recognition, was dead when firemen arrived, Lamb said.

The driver of the truck was treated for minor injuries at Westlake Community Hospital, a hospital spokesman said.

Lamb said no charges were filed against the owner of the truck. He said the coroner’s office was trying to determine the identity of the victim.
