More than 100 guests were evacuated from the Bahia Resort Hotel Wednesday night when a fire destroyed a one-room paint shop that sat between two wings of the hotel, fire officials said. The 25-by-50-foot building was detached from the hotel, and the fire posed no serious threat, Capt. Martin Marugg said. The guests were evacuated, however, because smoke from the chemical fire was being blown toward about 80 hotel rooms. The guests were allowed to return more than an hour later after officials determined that the chemicals were not dangerous. The fire was still under investigation late Wednesday night, and the amount of damage had not been determined.
