Xerox’s Pasadena-based Special Information Systems division was awarded the pact, which is for research and development over a 15-month period, to develop an anti-counterfeiting system for the nation’s paper currency. It is the second such contract awarded by the Treasury. The first went to American Bank Note of New York last October. Both contracts concern holographic images that would be embedded in the currency. Such images are now used on some credit cards to deter counterfeiting.
