Brea : Crowd Expected at Meeting on Development, Helipad Proposals

Share

City officials anticipate a crowd at a Planning Commission meeting Tuesday night regarding proposed development in the Carbon Canyon area and a proposed helicopter landing pad near a residential area.

Commission members are expected to decide on a final recommendation to the City Council on the proposed development, which could increase the number of homes there from fewer than 300 to as many as 5,356. Carbon Canyon lies at the junction of Orange, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

The helipad would be at the Security Pacific National Bank Operations Center at 275 S. Valencia Ave. Residents from the surrounding neighborhoods have opposed the proposal for years, City Planner James DeStefano said.

Security Pacific officials say they process about 3 million documents daily and need the helicopter because it would be faster and safer than ground transportation, according to an environmental impact report. Residents say the noise would disturb the neighborhood. Security Pacific wants to use the helipad up to 10 times a day on weekdays between 2:30 and 10 p.m.

The Planning Commission meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the Brea-Olinda High School auditorium.
