British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher called for a voluntary code of conduct by the media under which nothing would be shown on television that might help hijackers or their cause as long as a hijacking episode lasts. “We must try to find ways to starve the terrorist and the hijacker of the oxygen of publicity on which they depend,” she told a convention of the American Bar Assn. in London.
