A 0.2% rise in consumer prices for San Diego residents during the last two months was attributed mainly to rising housing costs for both buyers and renters, according to a report released Thursday by the U.S. Dept. of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Higher home furnishings and local telephone charges also contributed toward the two-month change. Grocery prices, however, dropped 0.9%, the strongest decrease since May, 1984, and transportation costs fell 0.8%, the first drop since July, 1984. Lower used car and motor fuel prices and lower air fares generated the decrease.
