A woman has been fined $200 for cursing a man who allegedly terrorized a kitten and hurled the pet into the Guadalupe River.

Comal County Peace Justice Harold Krueger found Xanthe Johnson guilty Thursday of intentionally and knowingly using profane language in public.

A charge of disorderly conduct against the man involved was dropped.

Johnson admitted she used abusive language, but with good cause. She said the kitten scratched the unidentified man after he thrust the animal into the faces of two large barking dogs. The man then grabbed the kitten by the neck and threw it into the river.

Johnson, who jumped into the river to rescue the kitten, was arrested and jailed for a short time. She has kept the kitten and named it “Slammer.”
