An advisory committee on Thursday recommended exclusive use of car pools by 1988 in two new traffic lanes scheduled for construction on the San Diego Freeway from Long Beach to Lake Forest, a spokesman said.

The committee, with representatives of each city along the route, previously recommended exclusive car-pool lanes for a 90-day trial basis on the Costa Mesa Freeway between the San Diego and Riverside freeways.

Both recommendations will be considered by the Orange County Transportation Commission at its regular meeting on Oct. 14, commission spokesman Tom Fortune said. Another option before the commissioners is to authorize use of the additional freeway lanes for general-purpose traffic.

Construction of the new San Diego Freeway lanes, one in each direction, is part of a $60-million improvement scheduled to begin in 1987 and be completed within about 18 months, Fortune said. However, the new Costa Mesa Freeway lanes will be provided by restriping and by eliminating much of the median in conjunction with a Caltrans resurfacing project that is nearing completion.
