WASHINGTON —
A moderate earthquake of 5.0 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Guatemala today and was felt throughout the Central American nation, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
Survey scientists said the quake occurred about 8:30 a.m. PDT and was centered near the coast about 80 miles southwest of Guatemala City. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. A slightly smaller quake of 4.2 that hit Guatemala on Oct. 11 caused considerable damage, they said.
