Protest Against Serving Veal

I was outraged by Eighbor’s letter. She was upset because the demonstration was about animals. She only has compassion for people. In her mind, how dare anyone work to stop the abuse of millions of creatures who cannot even speak for themselves?

But, should this abuse go on? Should we keep striving, as farmers and scientists are today, to turn animals into machines? And, doesn’t this argument sound familiar? Not too long ago we were trying to make blacks into machines. Hardly anyone questioned that then.

Today, we have wiped out most racism and sexism. Tomorrow we will have wiped out speciesism.
