China to Double Beer Production

From Reuters

China wants to double beer production in the next five years to cope with growing demand, the New China News Agency said Friday.

It quoted a Light Industry Ministry official as saying the target was to make 1.3 billion gallons of beer a year by 1991, the equivalent of 1.2 gallons per head of population.

Beer output has risen more than sevenfold since 1978 as Chinese living standards improve and shortages occur regularly in summer.
