MIAMI —
Six Cubans who crossed the Florida Straits on inner tubes were being cared for Monday at a federal detention center after being rescued off South Florida.
The men were suffering from exhaustion, sun blisters and “could hardly walk” when they were rescued, Perry Rivkind, federal Immigration and Naturalization Services district director in Miami, said Monday. Three of the men were taken aboard a fishing boat Saturday, and the other three were pulled from the water by the crew of another fishing boat on Sunday.
