Gov. George Deukmejian has appointed Alhambra resident...

Gov. George Deukmejian has appointed Alhambra resident J. William Orozco to the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges. Orozco, 65, has been a travel agent with Orozco Travel Service of Los Angeles since 1952. The appointment of Orozco, who served as a member of the California School Board Assn. from 1969 to 1979, must still be confirmed by the state Senate. If confirmed, Orozco will serve on the board until January, 1989, receiving $50 a meeting plus expenses.

Carl B. Morales, assistant vice president of Mitsui Manufacturers Bank in Los Angeles, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the McKinley Home for Boys. Morales received degrees from Pasadena City College and Woodbury University in Los Angeles. He resides in Temple City.

Raymond E. Ball of Claremont has been reappointed to the Los Angeles County Commission on Obscenity and Pornography by Board of Supervisors Chairman Pete Schabarum. Ball, an electrical lighting sales representative, is a former member of the Claremont Planning Commission.

James Gulli, director of community education at Citrus College in Glendora, has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship from National University in San Diego. Gulli will use the scholarship to pursue a master of business administration degree in marketing.

David Stein, a real estate developer, has been elected to the Board of Fellows of Claremont University Center. Stein is co-founder of the Orange County African Relief Fund and is chairman of the board of PNB Financial Group, a holding company for Pacific National Bank. Stein also serves on the board of South Coast Medical Center.

H. David Politzer, professor of theoretical physics at Caltech in Pasadena, has been awarded the 1986 J. J. Sakurai Prize by the Council of the American Physical Society for his pioneering research on quarks. Politzer, an Altadena resident, received an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and graduate and doctoral degrees from Harvard University.

Profs. Hans-Dieter Brueckner, Liliane Fucaloro, Burdette Poland and Samuel Yamashita have been awarded 1986 Pomona College Wig Distinguished Professor Awards. The awards are given to faculty members for high quality teaching, student concern, research and writing activities and community service.
