Industrial Education in Los Angeles
I want to commend you for the long-overdue articles on the demise of industrial education in the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Los Angeles County schools (April 27).
As a teacher of graphic arts at El Camino Real High School and 26 years with the Los Angeles Unified School District, it is a real concern to me to see what is happening and how it has and will continue to affect the total education of today’s student.
Quoting Larry Tripplett, principal at Lynwood High School, “I don’t want to see industrial arts die. We must find a balance between the academics and vocational education. . . . It is not true that industrial arts is for dummies. There is still a need for auto mechanics as well as Ph.Ds.”
