Pacific 1000 Catamaran Race : Smyth and Hill Lead for Fourth Straight Day
For the fourth consecutive leg, Randy Smyth of Huntington Beach and Jim Hill of San Francisco led the Pacific 1000 catamaran race Saturday.
The pair sailed from Long Beach to Doheny State Beach in 5 hours, 12 minutes. Their elapsed time for the first 120 miles of the 1,000-mile race is 21.00.32.
Larry Hateck of Santa Barbara and Eric Brinton of San Diego were second on the day with a time of 5:12.52 and are fourth overall (21:26.19).
Dave Keller and Jack Edgehill of Mammoth Lakes were third Saturday (5:15.27) and are fifth overall (22:07.56).
Roy Seaman of Malibu and Greg Richardson of Myrtle Beach, S.C., finished sixth on the day (5:16.18) but are second overall (21:22.43). George DelBianco of Madera, Calif., and Mike Checkettes of Fresno were fifth (5:15.52) on the day and third overall (21:25.28.).
The teams leave Doheny at 10 a.m. today for Mission Bay in San Diego.
