In a sharp reversal, Datametrics reported earnings of $582,000 for its third quarter ended Aug. 2, up from a $794,000 loss in the same period last year. Sales rose 47%, to $4.4 million.

The Chatsworth maker of computer printers for the military earned 10 cents a share versus a loss of 23 cents a share in last year’s third quarter.

Garland S. White, chairman of the company, attributed the turnaround to cost cutting and aggressive marketing. He said the company had a record backlog of $26.5 million on Aug. 31.
