Two groups said they have reached an out-of-court settlement with the owners of the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant near San Luis Obispo over the re-installation of racks to hold spent nuclear fuel in a pool. Mothers for Peace and the Sierra Club withdrew their complaint against Pacific Gas & Electric Co. pending a safety review by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Mothers for Peace spokeswoman Nancy Culver said. “We know PG&E; knows we’re looking over their shoulder and keeping them from doing things they otherwise would do,” Culver said. “It makes them more cautious.” The two groups had filed an emergency request with the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, seeking an order to block storage of the radioactive waste in the plant’s spent fuel pool.
