Soviet-backed Afghan forces have been losing 10 to 15 men a day in an offensive against rebel strongholds outside the Afghan capital of Kabul, Western diplomats said in New Delhi. One of the diplomats said that Afghan troops were being used for most of the ground assaults while Soviet forces were primarily providing artillery and air support. There was no report on Soviet or rebel casualties. Western sources in Islamabad, Pakistan, said the guerrillas are still attacking government posts in the area and firing rockets into Kabul.
