Strong lumber and plywood markets, continued improvement in pulp and containerboard markets and performance of the company’s newsprint, real estate and financial-services operations were favorable contributors to third-quarter results for Tacoma-Wash.-based Weyerhaeuser, which reported higher earnings and sales over the same period a year ago. In addition, the firm said exports, including markets for Douglas fir logs in Japan and Europe, strengthened throughout the quarter, and domestic demand for composite panels was strong. Uncoated paper markets also were favorable.
