Share

First place in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. and the No. 1 spot in the NCAA Division II poll will be on the line when No. 1-ranked Cal State Northridge (21-4 overall, 5-0 in the CCAA) meets No. 2 UC Riverside (13-5, 5-0) in a women’s volleyball match Friday night at Riverside.

Cal State Northridge had road victories over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Chapman in the first week of the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s soccer season--significant only because those were the two teams expected to challenge the Matadors for the CCAA title.

CSUN then struggled to a 2-1 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills and in a scoreless tie with Cal Poly Pomona, ending a six-game winning streak that fell one shy of the school record set in 1984.
