A transsexual and a screw-making company settled a lawsuit in which the plaintiff alleged she was wrongfully discharged because of her sexual orientation. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge William J. McVittie issued a gag order and sealed the file, and Robert Moss, attorney for 37-year-old Sandy Lynn Wendel, a West Covina resident formerly known as Raymond Wendel, declined to say whether there had been any monetary settlement with City of Industry-based Screwcorp. Wendel, a machine operator for 11 years, had not been surgically transformed into a woman at the time of the firing, but had begun to dress like a woman and alleged that this led to her discharge. Screwcorp officials said the firing was based on poor job performance.
