U.S. to Give Haiti $10 Million
The United States announced today it will give Haiti up to $10 million to train more than 100 technicians, administrators and medical personnel in this country.
The announcement by M. Peter McPherson, administrator of the Agency for International Development, came after a meeting between President Reagan and Lt. Gen. Henri Namphy, the first Haitian head of state to travel abroad in 30 years. McPherson said the money for training will take U.S. aid to Haiti this year to over the $100 million mark, well over double the figure during the long reign of ousted dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier.
