Libya said Friday that the U.N. General Assembly vote condemning the U.S. raid on Tripoli last April was a victory that would weaken U.S. influence on the world body.

The Libyan news agency JANA, monitored by the British Broadcasting Corp., described the vote as an “overwhelming success,” saying “this victory” would effect a fundamental change inside the United Nations and lead to the end of U.S. influence and control over it.

The 159-member assembly Thursday approved the condemnation resolution, sponsored by the Soviet Bloc, Arab and nonaligned nations, 79-28, with 33 abstentions. All but two North Atlantic Treaty Organization members, Greece and Turkey, joined the United States in opposing the resolution.
