Roundup : Crawford 20, San Marcos 19
Ivory Randle scored on a one-yard run with 4:27 remaining in the fourth quarter to lift Crawford past San Marcos. The game was a rematch of last year’s 2-A semifinal, also won by Crawford, 7-6.
Lou Coons’ five-yard pass reception from David Edrozo gave Crawford a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. But San Marcos came back to take a 13-7 halftime lead on touchdown runs of 1 and 13 yards by Jim Jennings.
Crawford went ahead 14-13 in the third quarter on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Keith Gilbert to Brian Jones, but San Marcos regained the lead on Rick Ebert’s five-yard run early in the fourth quarter.
Then, with his team trailing, 19-14, Randle slipped over from the one to put Crawford ahead. San Marcos drove to the Crawford 35 in the final moments, but Abel Neri’s 52-yard field goal try with five seconds remaining fell short.
Crawford’s victory set up the Colts (7-4-0) for a 2-A quarterfinal game against No. 3-seeded La Jolla next Saturday night at La Jolla. San Marcos, the Avocado League runner-up, finished 6-4-1.
