President Reagan’s Secret Dealing With Iran
Simes’ article was one President Reagan would not enjoy reading I am sure. The reason: the truth hurts.
When I heard of our government’s dealings with Tehran, I immediately recalled 1980 and the hostage crisis. Throughout his campaign, Reagan was adamant about not conceding to terrorists.
How the Reagan Administration could bargain with Tehran, i.e., provide U.S. military equipment, and then turn around and deny such dealings is beyond me. Did they expect to get away with it unnoticed, “Oh, look, the terrorists let them go. Wasn’t that nice of them?”
What happens next time? Do we concede, make a deal? We’ve done it before, why not again?
Isn’t it obvious that by dealing with terrorists we become party to terrorism?
