Loyalty Is Too Often Ignored in Takeovers

Share

I read with great interest John F. Lawrence’s timely column (“In Takeovers, Human Toll is Often Ignored”), as my husband was a casualty of one such takeover a year ago involving a large movie studio.

With the flurry of new managements, my husband was subject to many charges, false accusations regarding job performance (I might add by persons entirely unfamiliar with his duties) and the whims of those now in charge.

All of this left us waiting from day to day.

Meetings with new heads and the re-evaluation of the “necessity” of his position left us with little optimism about a happy outcome--all of this while I was out of work awaiting the birth of our twin boys.

I only hope that in my sons’ futures, loyalties will be rewarded with more than inadequate severance pay, loss of dignity and the desire of shareholders to sell out when their stock peaks during a takeover rumor.
