American Telephone & Telegraph said Monday that its planned New Year’s Day price cut for dialed long-distance calls could be even greater than the 8.1% previously announced.

Last week, the Federal Communications Commission ordered reductions in the rates local telephone companies charge AT&T; for transmitting the local portion of long-distance calls.

The FCC scheduled a news conference for today to say how much of $375 million in rate reductions AT&T; will be required to pass on to its long-distance customers.
