Stanislaus State Beats Chapman

Stanislaus State’s Steve Romero scored 21 points Monday night to lead the Warriors to a 80-71 nonconference victory over Chapman at Turlock.

Chapman gained an 11-3 lead, but the Warriors rallied with a 16-2 run for the first of 15 lead changes. The Panthers led at halftime, 45-43.

Karl Tompkins led Chapman with 18 points, including 14 in the second half. John Samuelson and Kelly Huston added 11 each. Stanislaus’ Ebon Knox scored 18 and Kevin Alexander had 17.

Chapman (7-6), has won seven of its last 10 games. Stanislaus is 7-3.

Chapman’s next game will be Jan. 9, when it opens California Collegiate Athletic Assn. play at Dominguez Hills.
