THE FAST LANE

Want to sit at “the power table” at Spago? Check into the Grand Suite at the Beverly Wilshire? Stay at the Chateau (Marmont, that is)? Maybe “take a lunch” at Le Dome? If you do, babe, then grab a marker (in the shape of teensy Porsches) and have a go at a new board game called Game L.A.

“All about L.A. attitudes,” it’s the brainchild of designer-illustrator Steve Hutchinson, who plans to have it in stores come May (he’s marketing it himself).

The object of the game: to acquire reservations at the hottest spots in town (although, in testing the game, Hutchinson found that players seem most intent on “screwing over other players”). To do so means facing all kinds of obstacles, such as getting lost in the Valley (you miss a turn). And having a car valet-parked (you pay $5 and wait--a turn--while the attendant finds your keys). And then there’s the terror (crash! bang!) of landing on an already occupied square (result: one player heads for Cedars-Sinai, the other has to stand in line at the DMV).

As for all the goodies that get you ahead, well, try cellular phones, getting your hair done at Jose Eber’s and buying your newest shades at L.A. Eyeworks.

It all takes place on a board in the shape of a freeway cloverleaf that’s dotted with all the familiar landmarks (Disneyland, Universal Studios, etc.) and the requisite Security Pacific automatic bank tellers.

Hutchinson claims to already have orders for 20,000 games, which will retail for $32.
