DIGGING CAGE
I tried playing Dan Sweetman’s illustration/quasi-composition on the piano (see above). As you might imagine, I have quite an advanced technique.
Particularly challenging were all the notes in the margin completely off the treble or bass clef staffs. I found that my spirits soared while playing the ultra-sophisticated measures (and margin) on the right side of the page.
Unfortunately, this good feeling was never sustained through any of the spare measures on the left. The overall effect is a limping, jerking, nerve-racking experience. I strongly suspect that Sweetman is making a conscious attempt to drive everybody crazy. Why?
