Four students from Sequoia Junior High School in Simi Valley who police said did $5,000 in damage to the school by painting obscenities on the walls were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of felony vandalism, Simi Valley police said.

The four defaced the outside of the administration and music buildings and damaged the amphitheater and gymnasium during the weekend by splattering paint and smearing obscenities with their hands, Officer Nick Stanley said.

Stanley said the youths scrawled the names of girl students, teachers and heavy-metal rock groups on the walls.

“The kids basically wanted to make a statement about their kind of music and what they thought of the teachers,” Stanley said. “They wrote a few choice things about the principal, the boys gym coach and the band teacher.”

The youths found eight gallons of brown, white and black paint in a garbage bin behind a nearby elementary school, Stanley said.

Three of the youths have police records and are being held in Ventura County Juvenile Hall, the fourth was released to the custody of his parents, Stanley said.
