Local News in Brief : Burbank Transient Apparently Was Slain

A52-year-old man found dead Sunday in Burbank died of liver disease, but police are treating the case as a homicide because a blow to the head contributed to his death, authorities said Tuesday.

The name of the man, described by police as “one of our local transients,” was withheld until relatives are notified.

According to an autopsy by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, a single blow from a blunt instrument contributed to the victim’s death, along with emphysema, Burbank Police Lt. Duane Dow said.

“It appears the victim was involved in some sort of physical altercation prior to his death,” Dow said.

A jogger found the clothed body at 8:45 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of First Christian Science Church of Burbank, in the 200 block of Amherst Drive, he said.

No weapon was found, the lieutenant said, and detectives have no suspect and know no motive for the apparent attack.
