Supporting Cast Has Leading Role as Reds Rally to Beat the Expos, 7-2
The Cincinnati Reds have opened the season with a smash hit made possible by a large supporting cast.
Bo Diaz and Buddy Bell each had three hits and drove in three runs apiece Wednesday as the Reds came from behind to beat the Montreal Expos, 7-2. It was Cincinnati’s second consecutive comeback victory.
Diaz and Bell had been quiet offensively Monday, managing only one hit between them in the Reds’ 11-5 season-opening victory.
“I think this is going to be a team where possibly a different guy comes through every day,” Manager Pete Rose said.
Dave Parker hit a solo home run, his first, to tie the score in the sixth.
“From (hitter) one through eight, all these guys are capable of having two- or three-hit nights,” Parker said. “You’re going to see a lot of these three- and four-run innings because of us being a good offensive ballclub.”
Diaz had three RBI singles and Bell provided the decisive hit, doubling home three runs in a four-run seventh inning.
