Barbara Mandrell will host CBS’ May 17 broadcast of the “Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.” It’s the network’s annual look at the new edition of the circus. A new elephant performer, called King Tusk, will be introduced, and renowned animal trainer Gunther Gebel-Williams will also be featured.

Bob Hope parodies scenes from famous films in his next special, coming Easter Sunday on NBC. Among the movies that are re-done with Hope and his guests are “On the Waterfront,” “Psycho” and “Out of Africa.” Joining him on the telecast will be Vanna White, Lynda Carter, Stepfanie Kramer, Gloria Loring and Jack Carter.

Ken Kercheval, who plays Cliff Barnes on “Dallas,” has a guest shot on Saturday’s edition of “The New Mike Hammer.” He plays an arms manufacturer with a blind daughter. The episode also marks the directing debut of Stacy Keach.

It seems fitting: Oprah Winfrey, who has taken daytime TV by storm this season, will host the 14th annual Daytime Emmy Awards this year. The telecast is due June 30 on ABC. Nominations will be announced May 14.

David and Jerry Zucker, who teamed with Jim Abrahams to make “Airplane!,” take on TV news magazines in “Our Planet Tonight,” a special that will be broadcast on NBC April 22. Appearing as reporters and commentators will be Jay Leno, Martha Quinn, Rich Hall, Mitch Lawrence, Jim Stahl, John Standing and Don Novello as Father Guido Sarducci. John Houseman and Morgan Fairchild host.
