The Simi Valley Police Department on Friday fired a male officer accused of sexually molesting a 16-year-old female police Explorer Scout, a department spokesman said.

Timothy D. Campbell, 32, of Simi Valley, a five-year veteran of the police force, pleaded innocent earlier this month to one count of sexual battery and one count of sexual battery against a minor.

The charges stem from a Dec. 10, 1985, incident in which Campbell is accused of sexually fondling the girl, Ventura County prosecutors have said.

Campbell is scheduled to appear Monday in Ventura County Municipal Court for a preliminary hearing.

The police department still is investigating two other officers to determine whether they committed improper acts with the same girl, Lt. Rick Ter Borch said. He would not disclose the officers’ names.

Police Investigation

Campbell was fired after a police department investigation that resulted in the criminal proceedings, Ter Borch said. The investigation began after police “discovered the allegation,” Ter Borch has said. He would not say how the allegation surfaced after more than a year.

Authorities have said the purported sexual act took place in the home of a third person while Campbell was off duty.

Campbell can request an administrative hearing to review his dismissal, Ter Borch said.

The girl, who is now 17, was one of a group of up to 20 police Explorer Scouts who observe law-enforcement work and help the department with clerical jobs. She remains in the program but has been on a leave of absence since the allegations surfaced, Ter Borch said.
