Southfield, Mich.-based American Motors Corp. posted a net profit for the first three months of 1987, the firm’s second consecutive profitable quarter and a turnaround from the more than $19-million loss recorded a year ago. A spokesman attributed the good showing to increased Jeep sales, improved operating margins and the continuation of improved manufacturing efficiencies, despite start-up costs on AMC’s new assembly plant in Ontario, Canada.
