Local News in Brief : Motorcycle Crash Kills Canoga Park Youth
A Canoga Park teen-ager died Saturday night after his motorcycle struck a pickup truck in Newhall, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said Sunday.
The victim, identified by police as John E. Lappin, 17, was traveling east on California 126 near McBean Parkway about 7:50 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve and sideswiped the truck, Officer Diane Lowery said. The teen-ager and his passenger, Stephen Foster, 20, also of Canoga Park, were thrown from the motorcycle onto the street, Lowery said. A third vehicle then hit the motorcycle, she said.
Lappin died a short time later at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia.
Foster was in fair condition Sunday at the same hospital. The drivers of the other two vehicles were unharmed, Lowery said.
