Rightist to Seek French Presidency

LA-TRINITE-SUR-MER, France —
Jean-Marie Le Pen, president of the far-right National Front party, announced his candidacy Sunday for next year’s French presidential elections.
“It is because I have the profound conviction that the fatherland is in great danger and that the French are threatened with being ruined, submerged and subjugated that I have decided to enter this decisive battle for the future of France,” the 58-year-old Le Pen said at the house in which he was born in this Brittany village.
