Stubborn Stain Ignites House Blast in France

CLERMONT-FERRAND, France —
A man who tried to remove a stubborn stain from his clothes by putting gasoline in his washing machine instead of detergent succeeded only in damaging his home, police reported.
Police said the man and two other occupants of the house in this central French city were unhurt but that the explosion, caused by a spark that ignited the gasoline, wrecked the ground floor of the building.
